2024 Annual Report

President and CEO

A message from President and Chief Executive Officer Domonic Hopson

On behalf of Neighborhood Family Practice, I’m honored to share our 2024 annual report — a reflection of 45 years rooted in care, community, and commitment.

This past year, our team of over 200 dedicated professionals worked tirelessly to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to the 21,853 patients who trust us as their medical home. From deepening culturally responsive partnerships to expanding access through new facilities and pharmacy services, we remained focused on meeting people where they are — and serving with dignity and respect.

Our collaboration with Birthing Beautiful Communities strengthened support for expectant mothers. Our W. 130th Street project reimagines a former pharmacy into a thriving hub for health. And our most successful Summer in the City benefit to date reaffirmed the incredible generosity of our supporters and the power of community.

The honors we received in 2024 — from Crain’s, Cleveland Magazine, and national organizations — are a tribute to the passion and purpose that drive our mission each day.

Thank you for standing with us. Together, we are honoring a legacy of care — and carrying it forward with heart.

With gratitude,

Domonic Hopson

Sharpened Focus on Maternal & Infant Health

As Black infant mortality and maternal morbidity rates remain a growing national concern, Neighborhood Family Practice (NFP) is proud to announce an expanded commitment to comprehensive, culturally responsive pre- and postnatal care in Cleveland.

“We know firsthand that our midwifery services include life-saving benefits,” said NFP President and CEO Domonic Hopson. “Our positive outcomes outpace those of larger hospital systems—not only in Cleveland, but across Ohio. Our wraparound approach to maternal and infant care is making a measurable difference, and we are excited to enhance and expand our services.”

In 2024, NFP introduced several key enhancements designed to improve maternal and infant health outcomes, particularly among underserved and diverse communities:

Partnership with Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC)

Through this collaboration, NFP integrated culturally rooted birthing practices and a doula match program that supports patients prenatally and throughout the baby’s first year—offering advocacy, care, and connection.

Cultural Education for Providers

To better serve refugee and newcomer families, NFP launched a new training program that equips healthcare workers with the tools and insights needed to navigate cultural sensitivities during and after pregnancy.

Expanded Centering Groups

NFP increased the number of its popular group prenatal care sessions, adding new groups that are tailored by language preference to foster community and improve outcomes.

Lactation Internship Program

With support from a First Year Cleveland grant, NFP launched a new internship initiative to diversify and strengthen lactation support services, pairing interns with certified consultants to improve maternal and infant well-being.

Baby Dance Classes

NFP now offers monthly dance sessions that support parent-infant bonding and early childhood development in a joyful, engaging environment.

These innovations reflect NFP’s unwavering commitment to delivering equitable, life-affirming care for every family we serve. Together with community partners, NFP is advancing a future where every mother and baby—regardless of background or language—has the opportunity to thrive.

Success Story

Erika Babb:

A Story of Strength, Support, and Empowerment

E rika Babb’s second birth experience was a powerful testament to what compassionate, culturally sensitive care can make possible. After a traumatic first birth, Erika knew she wanted a different experience — one rooted in trust, support, and her own voice.

During her second pregnancy, Erika partnered with NFP midwife Katy Maestros, seeking a natural birth. What followed was both unexpected and empowering. Erika arrived at the hospital already in active labor. Within moments, the birth progressed rapidly. With no time to make it to the bed, and with Katy’s steady guidance, Erika delivered her baby standing — safely, confidently, and without intervention.

“It was fast. I didn’t even have time to push,” she recalls. “I looked down, and there she was. That’s my baby.”

What made the difference this time? Erika points to the relationship she built with her midwife and the support she received from the NFP team. “With NFP, I felt like part of the family,” she shares. “I had an advocate — someone who really listened, who was with me every step of the way.”

Erika’s story reflects the impact of personalized, culturally respectful care — care that centers the voice and values of the birthing person, no matter how unexpected the journey.

“With NFP, I felt like part of the family. I had an advocate — someone who really listened, who was with me every step of the way.”

Community Engagement

Neighborhood Family Practice continues to deepen our commitment to building strong, inclusive communities through meaningful cultural engagement. By participating in and hosting a variety of events throughout the year, we celebrated the rich diversity of the neighborhoods we serve and strengthened connections with individuals and families across Cleveland.

From cultural festivals and youth celebrations to senior socials and citywide parades, our presence reflected more than participation—it demonstrated our dedication to fostering belonging, sharing resources, and uplifting the voices and traditions of our community. These efforts remain at the heart of our mission to provide not only healthcare, but a trusted and welcoming space for all.
